Welcome to the semester's last newsletter from the research group Diversity in Education (DivE) at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN)! We are getting ready to dive into the summer holiday. But before we do, we would like to give you an update on our recent activities. Spring is not only a time for exams and grading. It is also a time to look ahead and plan for new research projects and international collaborations. In this newsletter, we include a call for abstracts for the annual conference on Sámi perspectives in education, tell you about upcoming publications and future research opportunities.

Recent Publications from DivE |
The article "Mother tongue education in four Nordic countries – problem, right or resource?" written by DiVEr and postdoctoral fellow Jonas Yassin Iversen together with a group of Nordic colleagues was just accepted for publication in the journal Apples - Journal of Applied Language Studies. In the article, the authors analyse how four Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, orient towards languages associated with migration, Indigenous languages and national minority languages in their educational policies.
DivEr and postdoctoral fellow Vander Tavares has published findings related to two research projects. The first concerns Norwegian students teachers' experiences in relation to learning about diversity in their teacher education programme and to their sense of preparedness to teach in diverse classrooms in Norway (see here). The second concerns the experiences of international students in Canadian higher education, which includes two book chapters: one on international students from Asia in Canada (Routledge) and another on international student employment (Springer).

Welcoming international colleagues to Hamar |
In early May, Thor-André Skrefsrud and Jonas Yassin Iversen were delighted to welcome colleagues from Gothenburg University, University of Iceland and Bath University for a seminar in Hamar. We are currently preparing a book on migrant youth, education, culture and identity, planning an international conference in December of 2023, as well as exploring new ideas for future collaboration. The researchers invovled in this network share an interest in the life conditions of migrant youth living in structurally disadvantaged areas, especially in relation to aspects of education, daily life, culture, and identity issues. Other DivErs invovled in the network are Kristin Skinstad van der Kooij, Vebjørn Horsfjord, Olena Iamroz and Artëm Ingmar Benediktsson.

| Første rapport fra FAITHED-prosjektet er ute! |
Kva skjer i trusopplæringa? Ein første rapport kan du finne her.

International collaboration with Chiba University |
As part of an international research project on international inclusive education, Vander Tavares visited the University of Chiba, Japan, in April, together with INN colleagues Karen Parish and Ana Lucia Silva. The research trip included teaching, school visits, and meetings with partners in Tokyo and Chiba to gain insight into inclusive education in Japanese schools and teacher education programs. Read the post here (in Japanese!).
